In Honor of Father's Day

Mirror, Mirror - Man in my Mirror.

If you can't tell the man on my right is my Father.

When I look in the mirror the man starring back at me is him.
People say I"m a splitting image.

This Sunday I learned about making people idols.

I realized I made my Father an idol. Sounds weird I will break it down for you.

Idolatry - 1 : the worship of a physical object as a god
2 : immoderate attachment or devotion to something (m-w.com)

my pastor was saying we turn to things that are tangible (alcohol, sex, people).

When we idolize people we expect them to be soverign to be perfect.

Main scripture given was Jermiah 17:5-6,

Jeremiah 17:5-6 (New International Version)

5 This is what the LORD says:
"Cursed is the one who trusts in man,
who depends on flesh for his strength
and whose heart turns away from the LORD.

6 He will be like a bush in the wastelands;
he will not see prosperity when it comes.
He will dwell in the parched places of the desert,
in a salt land where no one lives.

We turn our heart away from God and begin to put all our trust in man. Great example was he took a water bottle got close to ground and dropped it then did it again but stood up. When he dropped it standing up the sound was louder aka the pain is deeper. I mean that when we have high expectations fro people it hurts more especially when we put them on God's level.

Now let me clarify.

I believe I always had very very very high expectations for my father and just now relizing it. So high every small disappoint = a big deal to me and big pain. Did he purpoesly hurt me nope. But I put so much value on the disappoints I didn't value the good moments. I forgot yes he is my father but he's not my Father, not God. He's not perfect he's human just like me. It took this sermon this past Sunday to understand that.

So now I can say I apologize for not realizing you are and are doing your best that you are humanly capable of to be my father and that's all I can ask for. So many issues with men I blamed on our relationship well my Daddy didn't tell me about .... and he didn't do this and that... excuses have to learn to take responsibility for YOUR own actions in life... anyway this was my reflection for the day.

This song - My Joy - Chrisette Michelle used to make me cry... but I know I'm his joy.

Happy Father's Day, tell your Father, or single mother or guardian you love them and appreciate them.
